Presenting: The UConn Environment Corps

One can never have too many umbrellas. This is true not only in light of shifting climate regimes, but with respect to the strengthening of new STEM efforts here at UConn. With the launch of this website, more than a year after our formal debut as a program and over five years after the original team started cooking up the idea of the Climate Corps, the expanded “E-Corps” team signals our commitment to this collaborative venture and the coordination of its many parts—each, by the way, nested within its own set of organizational hierarchies (well, maybe you can have too many umbrellas…). Details about the goals, history, players, funding and courses of the E-Corps are located on the other pages of this site, and on the websites of each of the component “Corps” classes. Suffice it to say here that we are aiming for a win-win-win-win outcome: a program that is good for the students, our faculty, the University, and the communities of Connecticut. In pursuit of that goal, over the next four years (and hopefully long after that) we will continue to revisit and improve our blending of the familiar elements of classroom instruction, service learning, and Extension outreach to achieve something that is not so familiar, and more than the sum of its parts. Wish us luck!
